Lotus Notes customers who work with or in the U.S. Federal Government or Canadian Governement are increasingly required to use products which conform to the FIPS 140-2 standard. To address this need, Notes 8.0.1 will support a configuration to use a FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic module (IBM Crypto for C) and FIPS 140-2 approved algorithms for Notes email and document encryption. In particular, this will include support for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm for Notes mail, document and ID file encryption. Support for AES may also be useful to address encryption requirements in other countries and organizations.
